Christopher McCann

As an actor in Theater he has worked with internationally acclaimed directors such as Lucian Pintilie, Richard Foreman, Joseph Chaikin, Ann Bogart, Robert Woodruff, Bartlett Sher, Douglas Hughes, Garland Wright, Carl Weber, Ron Daniels, Mark Wing-Davy and Moisés Kaufman.  

 As an actor in Film, directors he has worked with include Michel Franco, Sidney Lumet, John Slattery, Michael Glawogger, Carlos Puga, Lance Edmands, Tim Disney, Antonio Campos, Rob Reiner, Phillip Noyce, Mary Harron, and Tim B. Nelson.

In theater, he has appeared in the premiere productions of plays by such authors as Tony Kushner, Caryl Churchill, John Guare, Sam Shepard, Charles Mee, Len Jenkin, Tim B. Nelson, Botho Strauss, George Walker, Ellen McLaughlin, Elizabeth Egloff, Mark Schultz and the NY premieres of two Bertolt Brecht plays: the 1974 production of The Measures Taken (at the Public Theater) and the 1978 off-bdwy production of St. Joan of the Stockyards. For The New Group he appeared in a never before produced work of Tennessee Williams – ONE ARM.

 He has directed the plays of David Lindsay-Abaire, Caryl Churchill, Jose Rivera, David Mamet, Quincy Long, Will Eno, Y York, Herb Leibman, Jessica Goldberg, Sam Shepard, Bertolt Brecht and William Shakespeare.

Since the fall of 2007 he has been on the faculty of The Conservatory for Theater Arts at SUNY’s Purchase College, where he teaches Acting in the 3rd year of a 4 year program.  He also teaches a class in the Film Program: Directing The Actor.

He has also taught at Columbia University, Cay Patten Studio, American University, Bethlehem, PA. State Prison, and given workshops at Sarah Lawrence, Catholic University, Tufts University, Emerson College, Washington University, Emory College, Axial Theater’s Acting Program and NYU.

 He is a graduate of NYU School of the Arts, BFA, 1974, where he studied with: Lloyd Richards, Peter Kass, Omar Shapli, Joseph Chaikin, Harold Guskin, Kristen Linklater, Nora Dunfee, Beverly Wideman, Nora Gutherie and Robbie McCauley.

After NYU he studied with: Ada Brown Mather, Robert Neff Williams, Catherine Fitzmaurice, Cecily Berry, Slava Dolgachev, Michael Egan, Chris Bayes and Ron Van Lieu.

Most recent appearances on stage have been for Red Bull Theatre (The Changeling), Living Room Theater (Exit The King), and Theater for A New Audience (King Lear).

He has worked with a great many wonderful people over the years, and hopefully learned from them all.
